Artist: The Elysian Dream

Song: The Martyrdom Perk

Album: None (single)

Year: 2009

Genre: Progressive/Electronic/Chiptune

An old project of mine. I stopped making music, but I am not sure why! People keep telling me to continue to make this kind of music, but I don’t know. I am doing another electronic project, but it is going to be serious, as this one was more for fun. Eh, I don’t know. I just wanted to make video game music and combine in it with progressive-ish metal-style drums, you know? I had a big fanbase, and I was vurrrry proud at the time. This track was somewhat in the middle of this project’s lifetime, and although a lot of my fans liked it, I was never too ecstatic. I wanted to upload the last track I ever made, because this one is far my favorite, and I implemented a lot more music theory into it, but it was a bit too large to upload. Want more? Message me. What do you all think?

Artist: I the Mighty

Song: The Dreamer

Album: Karma Never Sleeps EP

Year: 2012

Genre: Progressive/Rock

One of the best bands out there right now, that’s for damn sure. The singer’s got pipes, and the the instruments are played phenomenally well in this band. Really fun, bouncy, and positive prog-rock. If you’re into bands like Closure In Moscow and At The Drive-In then you definitely need to give these guys a listen. This is definitely one of my favorite release so far this year! You need this EP on your Summer playlist, really good to sing along with, especially with friends! Goodness this guy can sing, the riffs are perfect, and the drumming is solid. On top of that they throw in a lot of odds and ends you wouldn’t expect from this style of music. It’s like progressive rock meets post hardcore. They remind me a bit of At The Drive-In, which is obviously awesome. Superior musicianship here, and I cannot wait until I get to see these guys live! I hope this band goes far! Visit their page, like them, and go buy this new album! Not trying to pay for the music? Go visit their bandcamp and you can get their last release fo’ free!

Circa Survive - Mandala

Album: On Letting Go

Year: 2007

Genre: Progressive/Indie/Rock/GREATNESS/Anthony Green Core

I think this is my second Circa post, but who cares, they deserve a million. It was hard to just say “Indie Rock,” because Circa Survive is just so much more. If you don’t know who Circa Survive is, then I apologize that your life is in such bad shape. Circa Survive is TOP-TIER, NEXT LEVEL shxt. Even their new stuff, which isn’t amazing, is better than your life, hahaha, but no really. Give this awesome band a listen if you have not, and then go watch them live. They are mind-blowing live. Excellent, excellent musicians and a top-notch singer. Their music is just amazing. One of my top three bands of all time. Again, if you have not heard them, listen to them, and if you have just go on ahead and enjoy some ear candy!

Enjoy!

What We’re Afraid Of - One Last Shaking

Album: Long Walk Home

Year: 2011

Genre: Progressive/Hardcore/Chaotic Hardcore (haha)

One of my top bands and albums for 2011, and 2012 so far. So good. This band makes gets you ready to rage, haha. Intense drumming with crushing and chaotic guitars with pissed off sounding vocals. This is the stuff right here. Definitely give these guys a listen. Their album is available for FREE FREE FREE on their bandcamp!

The Safety Fire - Huge Hammers

Album: Grind The Ocean

Year: 2012

Genre: Progressive/Metal/Sexycore

UNF. Stuff is grrrrreat. If you’re a fan of progressive metal or progressive period then back your stupid ass up and take a listen. Killer vocals and smooth cleans with great range over intense instrumental mastery. Don’t forget the production value on this album is really good. I hate using this word, but this is a pretty “epic” album, in the sense of having really intense build-ups to face melting riffs and what have you. Good stuff right here!

Enjoy!

P.S. another one I had to find from somewhere else. File too large to upload. Guess my music choice is just tooooooo good.

Exemption - Mutating Skulls

Album: Public Cemetary Party

Year: 2010

Genre: Surf Rock/Post-Hardcore/Rock/Stoner Rock/Progressive/Metal/Experimental/Indie/Mathcore/Too Much ._.

This band is crazy, probably not for everyone, but it is because many people have weak, and closed minds. My goodness, I really don’t have words to describe these guys. They’re wicked musicians making some absolutely crazy good music. Just check them out. Man these guys melted my face D:

Enjoy!

Rooftops - Raft Easily

Album: A Forest Of Polarity

Year: 2009

Genre: Math Rock

UGH. Such a damn good band. Definitely one of the best math bands ever. I found out about these guys by meeting someone who worked for Top Shelf Records, the guys that Rooftops are signed to of course, and he told me all about them and gave me one of their stickers. Good stuff, I am so glad I met that dude. Anyway, this band is phenomenal, awesome math riffs and drums and occasional vocals; nothing could be better. Please, please, please check these guys out!

Enjoy!

p.s. check out top shelf records too!

Volumes - Wormholes

Album: Via

Year: 2011

Genre: Progressive/Technical/Deathcore/”What people call djent even though they don’t use the actual chords for making the djentt sound” djent

This band can crack skulls with their music. Solid tech riffing and pissed off vocals make for a good soundtrack to a serial killing. Hahahaha, but no really. These guys are pretty damn good. There are a lot of bands like these guys out there, but I think Volumes is one of the few that can really pull it off.

Enjoy!

Mario Camarena of Chon

February 8, 2012

Chon - Elliptical Illuminations

Album: 2008 Demo

Year: 2008

Genre: Instrumental/Technical/Progressive/Rock/Metal

This is such a beautiful song by an incredible band of young musicians. I just found these guys about a week or so ago, and I’ve been completely blown away. The guitarist’s skills are way off the charts, I am telling you. If you have any appreciation for good music then you’ll dig this! If you do end up liking go visit http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/869084598/chon-album-fund and donate so that they can release a new album! They deserve it! Man this band is amazing, haha.

Enjoy!
