Artist: You Blew It!

Song: The One With Marc

Album: Grow Up, Dude

Year: 2012

Genre: Indie/Emo

Such a good band, on such a good label (Top Shelf Records, check them out!), while they are a tiny bit on the depressing side, it doesn’t mean you can’t jam out these guys while you’re having a good time. They are perfect for any kind of situation, except for a bumpin’ ass party haha. Powerful lyrics, with solid indie riffage, and plenty of that ambient stuff going on there to set the mood. Don’t forget the moody, yet really pleasant voice of the singer! YBI! really makes me feel good, makes me want to hang out with some close friends all night, you know? Well I guess you won’t until you click play, so you need to do that first! If you’re into indie at all, or are looking for a good emo band to listen to, then these are your guys! Check ‘em out! They are seriously underrated, and could use your support!

Artist: Daytrader

Song: Firebreather

Album: Twelve Years

Year: 2012

Genre: Indie/Rock/Pop-Punk

I don’t see how this band is signed to Rise Records. I guess it would have to be because Rise Records wants to increase their audience by signing more bands like these guys. I’ve always disliked Rise Records for having shite, such as Attack Attack! and Miss May I, but whatever, this is not about Rise Records, this is about the amazing group: Daytrader. Never heard of them? That’s fine, these guys will be in your top twenty, no doubt. They remind of Jimmy Eat World, Saves The Day, and Hot Water Music (purely the instrumental stuff, not the vocals), so if you’re fan of any of those bands, then definitely check out Daytrader. Honestly though, I feel that any of you indie rockers out there will eat this up. I know I did! Daytrader isn’t just your average indie rock band with a pop-punk twist, they are definitely a solid group, but they are far from boring. They’ve got a lot of ambient riffage going on with the guitars, which compliments the upbeat drumming and straightforward, yet groovy bass playing. The singer can definitely sing. His style fits the band perfectly, really getting those perfect highs at the perfect times. He has somewhat of a twang in his voice as well, which makes it unique, and I love that, haha. Daytrader is going to fit well in your Summer playlists, so don’t miss out!

Artist: And So I Watch You From Afar

Song: Search:Party:Animal

Album: Gangs

Year: 2011

Genre: Math Rock/Post-Rock

Awesome Math Rock band, with a little Post-Hardcore thrown in there. Once again, another band I can’t do justice for, haha. Sounds bad, since that’s sort of my job here, but I mean come on, some bands are just too damn good! They got together in 2005, and have released a couple of EP’s and full-lengths since then, but this album as well as their 2009 s/t release are hands-down my favorites. This is for fans of Math Rock, and any bands that are influenced by Math Rock, whether it be Fall Of Troy or Minus The Bear. I also recommend this band to fans of At The Drive-In. Don’t miss out on these guys, they are fantastic musicians who know how to melt faces. I mean one of their songs is called “Set Guitars To Kill,” so you know they’ve got to be intense. Click to play, and have your face melt off.

Artist: Mouse On The Keys

Song: Spectres De Mouse

Album: An Anxious Object

Year: 2009

Genre: Math Rock/Jazz/Post-Rock (sort of)

Japanese Math Rock trio that completely tears it up. These guys are masters at their instruments. Being a big pianist and drummer, this music really speaks to me. Bleh! I just cannot get over how phenomenal and underrated these guys are. You seriously need to listen. Lightning fingers on the keys, and the incredible drumming, everything is on point. All killer, no filler, for sure. I am upset I’ve only just recently heard of them (by looking through math rock drumming on YouTube, haha), but at least I did! You all seriously need to listen to these guys. Much like the last band, there is not much I can say, the music will speak for itself. So yeah, quit reading here, and click the play button!

Artist: BADBADNOTGOOD

Song: Vices

Album: BBNG 2

Year: 2012

Genre: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (this is what the actual data is, haha) I would say Jazz/Experimental/Hip-Hop

BBNG’s latest release is nothing short of pure awesome. I honestly cannot produce the words to do this band any justice. They are predominately Jazz, but with a whole plethora of other genres in the mix. I discovered them through a friend who showed me their cover of Flashing Lights, you know, by Kanye West, and it was amazing. They’ve also done a Zelda medley, Lemonade by Gucci Mane, Earl by Earl, and Mass Appeal by Gangstarr on top of a handful of others. They’re originals are top notch jams as well. I am so glad I found out about these guys, I’ve already been missing out for a long time. If you’re into Jazz or Hip-Hop then you definitely need to check this out. I also highly, HIGHLY recommend this to anyone who has an open mind for music, and is looking for something new to chill out to. Awesome stuff to kick back to this Summer. Whether you’re at the crib, going to for skate, or cruising in the car, this is it right here. Do yourself a favor and click to play, because otherwise you will just be screwing yourself out of some of the best music you’ll ever hear. Oh by the way, all their stuff is FREE.

Artist: City Lights

Song: Trophy Room

Album: In It To Win It

Year: 2011

Genre: Pop/Punk

Great Pop Punk right here, and I think this is my second post of them. If you have not heard of them, then you are missing out big time! One of my favorite pop punk bands currently, up there with TSSF and Close Only Counts (check those bands out too). Excellent album, excellent production, and your classic pop punk lyrics with hard-hitting music. Doesn’t get any better, right? I would say this is definitely for fans of New Found Glory, but if you like Pop Punk at all then I have no doubt you’ll dig these guys! This song, and Lawnmower are probably my favorites from this album, but don’t let that deter from giving all of their songs a listen. This album is definitely “all killer, no filler.”

Enjoy!

Artist: I the Mighty

Song: The Dreamer

Album: Karma Never Sleeps EP

Year: 2012

Genre: Progressive/Rock

One of the best bands out there right now, that’s for damn sure. The singer’s got pipes, and the the instruments are played phenomenally well in this band. Really fun, bouncy, and positive prog-rock. If you’re into bands like Closure In Moscow and At The Drive-In then you definitely need to give these guys a listen. This is definitely one of my favorite release so far this year! You need this EP on your Summer playlist, really good to sing along with, especially with friends! Goodness this guy can sing, the riffs are perfect, and the drumming is solid. On top of that they throw in a lot of odds and ends you wouldn’t expect from this style of music. It’s like progressive rock meets post hardcore. They remind me a bit of At The Drive-In, which is obviously awesome. Superior musicianship here, and I cannot wait until I get to see these guys live! I hope this band goes far! Visit their page, like them, and go buy this new album! Not trying to pay for the music? Go visit their bandcamp and you can get their last release fo’ free!

Artist: Vacationer

Song: Having It All

Album: Gone

Year: 2012

Genre: Experimental/Electronic/Indie

I really don’t have the words to describe how cool Vacationer is. Have you ever heard of Person L? If not then you suck and need to check them out. What about The Starting Line? You have to have! The lead singer from TSL sings and plays the guitar for Person L, and he also happens to be the frontman of Vacationer! When I first heard Vacationer, I recognized the voice, and as I suspected I discovered it was Kenny Vasoli! Anyway, this is the chillest music I’ve heard in awhile. Vacationer is a collaborative effort that makes music revolving around, well vacationing. Chillin’ out, having a good time with good people and good vibes. Really uplifting, awesome stuff. Can’t get enough it. So perfect for Summer that it isn’t even funny! If you go to their site, which I will link below, you can type in any state and then the site plays a collection of videos from that state with their track “Trip” in the background. Sweet, right? They remind of so many different bands that I can’t really pin any of them. I hear some American Royalty in there, that’s for sure! You just have to listen. Beautiful music here. I really can’t wait to jam this out this Summer.

Artist: This Mouth Is An Ashtray

Song: Mother, I’ve Been Tired

Album: Shibboleth

Year: 2012

Genre: Indie/Folk

This musician messaged me awhile ago, but I am only getting around to it now, because I’ve been on the Xbox. Anyway, TMIAA was quite a pleasant surprise! Indie Folk with a touch of bluegrass makes for music something along the lines of Grizzly Bear, so if you’re into Grizzly Bear then you’re going to want to check this guy out. His voice reminds especially of someone else, but I still cannot think of who it is! Either way, you should support this guy, and purchase Shibboleth. It’s only a four track album, which is more-or-less a demo, but you get to name your price! Everything counts for musicians these days! I’m not going to say only throw this guy a quarter, but if that’s all you got then I’m sure he wouldn’t mind. These tracks are perfect for the up and coming summer nights with your friends and a campfire (hopefully it won’t be hot as fuuu- this Summer). This Mouth Is An Ashtray is delivering some fresh Indie Folk this summer, so definitely click for more and visit his bandcamp to grab yourself “Shibboleth!”
